The Arizona State Board of Pharmacy recently began interpreting its authority in a manner that implies that virtually every company that manufacturers or sells dietary supplements in the state will need to register as a nonprescription drug facility. If the board is successful and persistent in this approach, it could significantly disrupt dietary supplement business in the state.

AHPA requests relief for supplement and herbal industry from tariffs on imports from China

Proposed tariffs could increase costs for consumers and cause disruptions to the marketplace

AHPA submitted comments on September 6 to the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) to request that a proposed 25 percent duty on Chinese imports be revised to remove from this new tariff burden numerous ingredients used in dietary supplements and other herbal products manufactured and marketed in the United States.

In an effort to ensure American consumers can discern if their food includes GMOs, AHPA recommended significant revisions to a proposed rule issued by USDA's Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) to establish a mandatory, national bioengineered (BE) food disclosure standard.

More than half of most recent NDI notifications available from FDA filed without comment

More than half of the most recent new dietary ingredient (NDI) notifications provided by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the last six months were filed without comment, but the rate of notifications reported received by the agency is dramatically lower than previously observed for any six month period since the initial six months in 1995 when the agency first began accepting and filing notifications.

The 30th Congressional Dietary Supplement Caucus luncheon briefing, held last week on June 21, featured celebrated U.S. soccer player Christie Pearce (formerly Rampone), who said dietary supplements saved her and her family’s lives. Speaking before an audience of 115 Congressional staffers and guests, Ms. Pearce shared personal stories and discussed the role dietary supplements have played in supporting peak athletic performance throughout her career, as well as the unique nutritional needs of her fellow players and family.
