AHPA President Michael McGuffin will be a panelist for the breakout session “Implications of Prop. 65's proposed regulations regarding Cannabis and THC in products” during the September 27th Prop.65 Clearinghouse Annual Conference. This virtual event brings together the regulated community to provide education on the latest developments in California Proposition 65 and to meet with the key stakeholders—regulators, public and private enforcers, and defense teams. AHPA has been a supporting sponsor of this event for many years.

The panel will be moderated by Ms. Carol Monahan-Cummings, Chief Counsel, OEHHA. Joining Mr. McGuffin as panelists will be Mr. Mike Easter, Principal, Ensight; Mr. Eddie Franco, Legislative and Regulatory Affairs Manager, California Cannabis Industry Organization; and Mr. Malcolm Weise, Partner, Hunton Andrews. Mr. McGuffin is a noted speaker on Proposition 65 topics from the perspective of the impact on dietary supplements and herbal products, including cannabis and hemp products.

Marijuana smoke was added to the Proposition 65 list in June 2009 as a chemical known to the State of California to cause cancer. In January 2020, cannabis (marijuana) smoke and Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) were both added to the Proposition 65 list as chemicals known to cause reproductive toxicity. Since the founding of its Cannabis Committee in 2010, AHPA has been a resource to the cannabis industry about Proposition 65 and the importance of compliance to its requirements. To assist cannabis and hemp industries in understanding the implications of the listings of these and other Proposition 65 chemicals, AHPA maintains freely available guidance documents for both cannabis and hemp products. AHPA members can register for the event at the association rate of $400.00 until September 20, 2021.
