No. 25: Schisandra (Schisandra chinensis)

Schisandra (Wu Wei Zi) is a unique herb, whose flavor will fill you with wonder. How can a fruit have all 5 flavors? Sweet, salty, bitter, pungent, and sour.

As one of the 50 foundational herbs of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), schisandra's health benefits have been known for generations. It's one of the few herbs in TCM considered a tonic herb that can be used by itself long term for overall well-being. So, it should not come as a surprise that this herb is recognized as an adaptogen.
