Amazon expands dietary supplement testing requirement to joint health products
January 30, 2025
90 day compliance period for covered products already on platform
Amazon has expanded its dietary supplement testing requirement to cover dietary supplements marketed for joint health. As was previously the case for weight management sports nutrition, muscle building and sexual enhancement products, products falling under this requirement must go through validation with one of three "Testing, Inspection, and Certification" (TIC) companies: Eurofins, UL, or NSF International. Amazon has informed the American Herbal Products Association (AHPA) that products already live on the Amazon store will have 90 days to perform this verification process. During this compliance period, covered products can continue to be sold as they undergo verification.
Amazon has provided additional information regarding what products it deems within scope for this category:
-
Any products that make claims regarding joint health, flexibility, or mobility.
-
Any products that contain any amount of glucosamine, methylsulfonylmethane (MSM), and/or chondroitin as an ingredient.
AHPA meets regularly with Amazon to communicate feedback from the dietary supplement community on this and other storefront policies.
