October 20, 2022

AHPA is pleased to announce that Dr. Joshua M. Sharfstein of Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and Gretchen DuBeau of the Alliance for Natural Health USA (ANH-USA) will present their expert perspectives as panelists at AHPA's Congress on Regulatory Priorities in the Natural Products Market on November 15.

Sharfstein is Professor of the Practice in Health Policy and Management at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, where he also serves as Vice Dean for Public Health Practice and Community Engagement and as Director of the Bloomberg American Health Initiative. A pediatrician by training, Sharfstein is also a former health commissioner of Baltimore, Principal Deputy Commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and health secretary of Maryland.

A lifelong environmentalist and devotee to natural health and healing, DuBeau found the perfect culmination of her interests at ANH-USA, where she serves as Executive and Legal Director and works to shift the current medical paradigm to one that embraces whole person health, including mind, body, and spirit, as the standard of care.

Sharfstein and DuBeau will join AHPA President and session moderator Michael McGuffin and AHPA General Counsel Will Woodlee to discuss what legislative and regulatory changes are needed for dietary supplements.

AHPA Regulatory Congress Panel:
Is it Time for DSHEA 1.4?

Wednesday, November 15 | 11:30am-12:20pm PT/2:30-3:20pm ET

U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) action on matters such as issuing final guidance on New Dietary Ingredient Notifications (NDINs) and addressing the future of FDA inspections remains to be seen, leading some to question whether it is time for an overhaul in dietary supplement regulations. In this panel, experts from AHPA and the industry will address what regulations are working, what areas urgently need improvement, and what changes to existing regulations would actually benefit consumers.
